DVR systems can be tricky to operate, and it’s not uncommon for valuable evidence to be unintentionally deleted or reformatted. In one recent case study shared with us from Video Analyst Ali Murray in Minneapolis, an owner accidentally reset the timestamp of their DVR, rendering the video from the shooting inaccessible with traditional recovery. Luckily, the team was able to find the original footage using DVR Examiner.
When trying to search for the video of a recent shooting, the owner changed the DVR timestamp to the time of the shooting. As a result, the video at that “time” was just a recording of the current crime scene investigators processing the yard. When the team arrived on scene, she attempted to export the original video in multiple formats with no success.
“I can’t think of any conceivable way we would have gotten the DVR to export the original videos without DVR Examiner.” – Ali Murray, Minneapolis Police Department
The team was able to take the DVR back to the lab to process with DVR Examiner. By using an inaccessible scan, they were able to locate and export the video of the shooting (with timestamps) from the hard drive.
Inaccessible recovery is one of the most popular features of DVR Examiner! For more information on how our software is able to locate inaccessible footage, read a more in-depth blog or watch our recent feature focus webinar with CTO Jimmy Schroering.
