With the release of DVR Examiner version 2.3.0, we updated some components of the basic user interface, introducing a new Welcome screen. Now, when you start DVR Examiner, the main screen will immediately pop up followed by the licensing screen. Once DVR Examiner has confirmed your subscription, the licensing screen will close, and you will now have access to all of DVR Examiner before you even begin a scan, including the options tab.
With the new Welcome screen, you have the same options you’ve always had; the ability to detect and scan a hard drive, detect and scan an image file, load a saved case, or create a forensic image. With version 2.3.0, we’ve also added a Tips and Tricks section. This collapsible window displays helpful tips and tricks for using DVR Examiner, including the updates and changes we make throughout the year. Use the left and right arrows to scroll through each screen.
By accessing the options tab before a scan, you can now change any of your user or global settings and have those changes reflected in the next scan. We’ve also introduced the ability to add and remove default and case tags from the Options screen. The option to always check for mounted images has also been moved to the Options tab.

Updating Tags
New in the Options tab is the ability to add and remove default and case tags. The default tags are tags that are available for any case that you are working with. The case tags grid will display all the default tags as well as any tags that have been added to clips in the current case. Tags entered on the clip list screen or a preview screen will automatically be displayed in the case tags grid. If you delete a tag from the cast tags grid list, that tag will be removed from all clips that contained that tag, within that case.
Note: If accessing the Options tab before scanning, the case tags grid list will be empty.

Users Manual
Along with a new user interface, we’ve also updated our user’s manual. Simply click on the question mark in the upper right corner of the screen and you will be taken to the online user’s manual. If you are on a dark computer, the off-line version will be displayed. We also offer the user’s manual in PDF format. It is available in the install folder that is downloaded and unzipped on your computer.
With the new UI, we hope that navigating DVR Examiner will be easier. The ability to access the Options tab before a scan will help facilitate global changes without the need to complete a scan. The Tips and Tricks section is a useful and easy way to learn about DVR Examiner and its features.
We hope you like the new look and as always, please let us know how we can make DVR Examiner work better for you.
